A boy or a girl ?

I am not pregnant, I just want to rant !

It was a sun drenched Saturday and we went strolling at Parc Borely as we would like to profit the spring. My daughter is dressed up with dark blue jogging attire with a Mickey and Mini Mouse drawing on it. She was wearing a pink ballerina shoes (sporty type) with a flower design and a simple hat. Suddenly, she went sliding and there was a little boy with his Mom. The boy is obviously older than Mayumi. When the Mom saw Mayumi she said to his young boy “Tu fais attention avec le petit garcon”! (You be careful with the little boy). I told her immediately “ C’est une petite fille Madame”! (She’s one little girl Ma’am). The mother excused herself!

Prior to this I pay no attention every time when people ALWAYS mistaken Mayumi for a boy! Contrary to Joanne she had compliments with her girl who is a boy with long hair LOL ! Trying to be NICE at all time I respond people “Oh it’s nothing! Or no harm about it” etc.etc! Honestly, it’s not a big question, isn’t it? However, it’s rare (very rare) that people recognise that she is a girl! This includes even when she wears a pink dress and pink shoes! Now they’re getting on my nerves! I know it’s nothing but it’s constantly the case. Accepting that she got no long hair!

I don’t know about you but personally before confirming a child’s gender it takes time before I assert myself or yet ask if it’s a boy or a girl! Nothing difficult about asking a question than to displease a parent!

Now I should “Cesser d’être gentille et sois vrai”! (Stop being nice and be true!)

i can definitely relate. kaya nga ang aga nagkaron ng earrings ni IC at MC, it's because they're always been mistaken as a boy. you are right, better ask than offend parents. i do ask but my hubby, he'd mostly offend, hahaha

My nephew had long hair until he was 5 or 6 and people always thought he was a girl. I guess its hard to tell the gender when kids are that age.

RAGGOLD Mayumi has a pair of earrings but I still not have her ears pierced (i'm afraid)! I guess, I need to do it to avoid enemies LOL ! Kidding aside, right having earring will help ;), thanks! Aha si hubby turuan ng di maka offend (joke)!

WIL I agree it's hard to tell but when a child wears a pink attire from head to foot it's definitely a girl! Asking will mean no harm, no foul :D !

Sometimes when they mistook Thomas for a girl because of his curly long hair, I wouldn't correct them straight out. I would reply by saying, "HE'S such and such..." so they get the idea. Now that I've cut his hair, I won't have to do this anymore. Thank goodness:)

Isn't it weird though even when Mayumi wore pink, they still thought boy instead of girl? Isn't this the most obvious way to tell?

I suppose some parents just dont care. I would certainly keep my mouth shut until I'm sure. With babies, I do ask for their name instead. And then judge from there. And yes, the pink clothes should be a give away.

Are you trying to have Mayumi's hair grow? Ponytails and hair clips should work.

Here in California, my experiences with parents usually involve saying , "Ohhhh , she is so beautiful." and the response would copme, "Oh, HE is going to be nine months old next week." I have not found too many parents getting upset from such a mistake

JOANNE before I reacted like you did. It's rare that I will pay attention. But sometimes it's irritating especially when she's all dress in PINK :( !

LEAH oh yes, have you seen her pictures with pigtail? Just scroll down. That day, she had her hair tied up but it was too hot so she wore hat. Though she wears pink shoes with flowers, still the Mom mistaken her for a boy :( ! I just don't know why !

I am doing everything just to let people know she is a girl! Anyway, siguro malabo lang mata nila ! Thanks for assuring me !

For Paris, I still don't know yet but will tell you as soon as I have the dates :D!

KEITH thanks for hopping! As I've said it wasn't annoying for me at the start. But in the long run when people UNCEASINGLY mistaken her for boy, I become upset! I would prefer people to ask me before confirming a gender! Have you seen a boy wearing a floral pink shoes and pink attire from head to foot?

Even my daughter is wearing these stuffs, still they thought she is a HE :( ! Sometimes, it could be annoying depends on my moods otherwise I just give them a tiger look LOL!

I can understand your frustration. And the pink shoes should have been a give away. But I guess, because men has been wearing pink nowadays, that's why that mom didn't pay attention to the colour of her shoes.

I'm blogging at this link for the mean time.

Oh, maybe she's colorblind he he...
My two boys are always mistaken for girls even if they're all dressed in blue, mind you, they have quite thick hair... oh well, don't let it get to you :-)

NICEHEART I did it with purpose co'z everytime we're out nothing's change! I agree that men nowadays are wears pink t-shirt except for floral :D! Thanks for informing me, will visit you there ;)!

PINING I never rant about it even if it's quietly the case very often! Probably I was in a bad mood that day that's why I paid attention to it! Your kids are very handsomely boyish ;)!

HILDA hahaha I love your humour! Now that she have her hair in pigtails I think it will be easier to recognise her and will also do the piercing soon ! Saan pa ba magmamana e di sa.....

GERI I usually look before concluding things, this is what we call a person of refined sensibility! I would see Evan as a Chinese boy rather than a girl!

It's just an observation, that Joanne, Keith and You commented all living in the US have the same way of reacting. I guess, it's a matter of where we live and how our environment works for us in a certain way. There in the US people would say "she is.. or my son is...if a child is mistakenly identify. Here what I have noticed French are more straight forward. They would correct (nicely or sarcastically depends on the person) right away ( I had witnessed a lot in my environment usually the things happening in the park)! In a way, I probably inherit with an unconscious impulse.. Before I pay no attention at all and will respond with a big smile on the face :D !

It's like when a Filipino speaks bad English other Pinoys will randomly laugh on grammatical errors made. But when I speak bad French I will not be a subject of laughing stuff instead I will be corrected !

A baby is hard to guess sometimes whether it's a boy or a girl. I always ask if I'm not sure. And I do make mistakes sometimes too.
I think Mayumi is old enough and you can tell whether she is a girl esp. when wearing pink.

My second boy used to sport long hairs when she was 3 or 4 years old and everybody would go like "Oh, he is a boy?" whenever I clarify to them that he ain't a girl.

My wife---back when we still had no baby girl---wanted to keep that look, perhaps she was longing for a baby girl then.

But later I had to bring Yves to the barbershop and stop those confusion on his gender whenever we go to parties or downtown.

Some people are just to dumb to notice it. I think.

AGRING you said right! I always ask the gender especially when I am not sure. Yes, I guess pink is really an obvious clue.

MAJOR TOM good move! This is also why I bought some pony tails and clips to avoid confusion. But sometimes when she's wearing a hat still she looks like a HE for some :( ! Next step earrings, I am sure she will be a real SHE ;)!

CINCINNATI HOME BUILDERS appreciate your visit, thank you. LOL, I guess not everyone maybe they don't have 20/20 vision which is the perfect eye vision.

OMG! I can totally relate with Mayumi! I, too, have always been mistaken for a boy as a child. It really is infuriating! :)

TOE well especially when she wears pink dress :D that is a bit irritating! I'm sure your Mom did everything to dress you like girl to avoid confusion and so did I, wa epek pa rin :( !

ANALYSE ikaw din :(! You see Mayumi hates to wear robe and skirt and I don't want to push her. So what I do I buy dora's dress just to make her wear the skirts ! Naku papabutasan ko na nga yan ng tenga para magkahikaw, ewan ko na lang pag napagkamalan pang lalaki :D !
