For Travelers

Who doesn't like traveling ? Who wouldn't want to have a stress-free vacation ? I thought of posting this for those who loves traveling and might find these useful. The very first time we went on vacation to the Philippines we thought of going to the Center for Vaccination in Marseilles to catch up on our vaccines. Me and my husband were re-vaccinated against D.T.P. (Diptheria, Tetanus, Polio), Hepatitis A and many others. While kids were already vaccinated by all of the aforementioned by their pediatrician (which are now obligatory) . According to the doctor even if I was born and lived half my life in the Philippines I am already susceptible to new virus. People who are living abroad may not have the same body condition and apparently is not already adapted to the present condition of the country where we grew up. They have furnished us yellow book (International Certificate of Vaccination) which are being released only by WHO to the local offices of vaccination of every countries. There you would find the dates of vaccination, nature of vaccine, doses, doctor's signature and doctor's note for the date of re-vaccination. You need to keep this yellow booklet and take note of important dates for re-vaccination prior to your travel/vacation. Be careful, the yellow booklet will not be valid for International travel without the approved stamp of health offices.

There are points to remember and will help you from your future travel/visit in your country or other countries especially in a tropical and subtropical countries. A helpful tips to avoid sickness and worry-free while on vacation.

1. Go to the nearest health offices or center for vaccination or better check with WHO (World Health Organization) for more informations.

2. When you are able to check with WHO for the addresses of the local health offices please do not forget to bring your passport or identification card to register and a doctor will advise educate and prescribe necessary medicines against mosquito bites .

3. The doctor will explain what are the risks and protection to avoid Malaria and Dengue - a serious and sometimes fatal disease remains endemic in most tropical countries. There is no vaccine for this but we can obtain protection by avoiding mosquito bites. How ? Use bed nets, repellents, body spray for anti mosquito bites and taking anti-malaria tablets or syrup regularly. The effect of these tablets differs in every country and doctor will be able to prescribe what tablets are right for you. Vaccines included are also for yellow fever, typhoid, cholera, influenza but there are also unfamiliar diseases so talk to your doctor.

Why do we need these vaccines ?

  • The hazard of exposure to diseases in the countries to be visited
  • The age, present health condition, and vaccination history
  • The presence of personal risk factors (pregnancy,pre-existing cardiovascular disease, or have HIV)
  • Reactions to preceding vaccine doses and medical records (including medication allergies)
  • The risk to contaminate others
  • Time span of vacation/travel

Please click on the link for France addresses of Vaccination centers or these and the countries and vaccines needed. I hope you will include this in your "list to do" before traveling. Stay safe !

Hi Haze, it's someone from the past. LOL I don't know if you remember me but I used to blog-hop a couple of years ago. I had a blog on bravenet titled "Not Another Blog". This is Babette from the USA. Anyway, nice to read your posts again. I followed the link for the countries with the corresponding vaccines needed, it's in French but good thing the country names are still the same. LOL Thanks for sharing.

I don't know... there are so many diseases...
I think what is important is to acquire a good immune system (by eating health foods).
You can take all the vaccines you want and then eat in a restaurant and end up with an amoeba.
I am also very scared about Dengue. In theory you can protect yourself with anti mosquito creams but that is theory. For instance...you get out of your shower, a mosquito bites you... bingo ! ;-)

Louna just got her shot of BCG (for tuberculosis) and she's complete with her vaccins so she's geared up for the Egypt tour now.. as for us, our office is taking care of what we need, like yellow fever shots if you go to Brazil, Hepa A and B to Asia.. and lately, we just received a kit for 'grippe aviare' hehe..

Hello BABETTE of course I do remember you ! For sometime I kept on reading your blog until the signs of mole ata yung last post. Then you suddenly stopped ! Anyway, I am glad of your visit :D ! Sorry, yes I could only post the French addresses but you can check at WHO naman !

I know what you meant SIDNEY by eating healthy food..a one way to protect ourselves. However, we should think of the duration of this immunity even if we have these anti-bodies we got when we were born from our mother they are not enough. The body may not be strong enough to fight the disease so for precautionary measure think of re-vaccination. I am also afraid of Dengue unfortunately there is no vaccine for this but let us stay vigilant!

You are welcome HILDA and good thing that Aix center didn't respond and so we have the reason for an EB ;)! Thanks for cooking pansit, sarap :D ! Now I know how to cut my onions LOL !

Good to hear RAGGOLD so have a safe trip and enjoy your grand day !

Good for Louna ANALYSE she will be ready for that getaway. Vaccines are now provided since birth and new-born babies have anti-bodies that they got from us. So what are you waiting for, pack your luggage and say hello to Egypt!

Baku ganyan talaga ang mga foreigners they need to be ready and take necessary precautions. Maraming puedeng mangyari in a split of second! Think about catching up on your vaccines YEN!
