Merry Christmas

Two days ago I heard from the news that there are still 6 frenchmen still alive since World War I and the oldest survivor is aging 111 yrs.old !!! An origin of VAR in the southeast of France. Not very far from where I leave. Outlive the war, is not very easy specially for us, it's unimaginable . Realizing that WAR is something horrible. How they were able to survive? I have all this admiration for them. Valiant soldiers were they.....I salute them......

It was Friday night when my husband and I went out to see a movie that depicts a part of history of the World War I. Since Friday is holiday in France, Great Britain and Germany had made a film co-producted by these 3 countries. In your right, you will see the title of the film
"Joyeux Noel" Merry Christmas or Fröhliches Weihnachten!

Synopsis :

This movie is inspired by a true story, which happened on Christmas Eve 1914 during the World War I, in many different places among the frontline.

When war breaks out the lull of summer 1914, it surprises and pulls millions of men in it's wake. And Christmas arrives, with it's snow and multitude, of family and army bundles. But the surprise won't come from inside the generous parcels which lie in the French, Scottish and German trenches.

The night, a momentous event will turn the destinies of four characters: A Scottish Priest, a French Lieutentant, an exceptional German Tenor and the one he loves and sings with (his wife a wonderful Danish Soprano). They will find themselves at the heart of unprecedented fraternisations between German , British and French troops. What a wonderful voice even in the middle of WAR they sung like birds and nothing can stop them to sing for all the soldiers not even WAR. German battlefields was decorated by Christmas trees, the British troops sung a Christmas song with the Priest playing an instrument and Sprink (German Tenor) sung and there it was started to capture the heart of many soldriers even the Lieutenant of German troops which is a Jewish he said " I am Jewish and we don't believe in Christmas but you've made me believe that it exist".

During that Christmas Eve, the unthinkable will happen: Leaders of each troops talked and agreed to have a ceased fire. Rifles will be left at the bottom of trenches and steps will be taken towards those opposite, to shake their hands, exchange a cigarette or a piece of chocolate, to wish them Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noel or Fröhliches Weihnachten....Every soldiers even exhanged photos of their families who's wating for them to come back home, playing football in the battle fields, taking coffee, sharing their family stories and the French Lieutenant invited the German leader and said " if the war will be over I would like to invite you to my house and let's have a drink ".

I was thinking that even we are caught in the middle of something like hatred and revenge but during moments like this those are being replaced with peace and love! During the time of WAR they found the time to have a ceasefire to celebrate the Christmas...the day of our Almighty Saviour. This is a MUST see movie.

What is truly admirable with veterans is that they lived to witness history evolve. I don't really know how it's like to go through two world wars though.
