Corsica itself is beautiful because of their famous mountains, hills, rivers, forests and beaches. Actually, we go to Corsica yearly because my father in law owns a house there (typical CORSICAN HOUSE - made of stone aged 300 yrs. already if i'm not mistaken) otherwise it'll be an expensive travel for us. Taking the Ferry has already taken our budget because we have 2 children so we need a cabin to stay comfortably. Everything there is expensive so I advise you to planify your budget. I enjoyed trekking, eating typical Corsican foods (thanks to a lot of friends), fiestas and appetizers from our village and the neighboring villages and it's very agreable to meet a lot of people from all walks of life. Like you can talk to a stranger without hesitation because they are simply mountaineers who definitely appreciate the day. You will enjoy the superb views, and I can tell you it's magical !
The weather is great specially during summer season that makes Corsica over populated ! You will also find delightful bars and restaurants not to forget the local music Corse with it's repercussions. Even I don't understand a single word, it is still captivating. I had the chance to eat what they call "sanglier" with of course another typical homemade sauce by our neighbor. It is actually a savage or wild pig ("baboy damo" in our own language) with two different recipes. :-)). Not to forget the famous "brocciu" it's a local cheese from there, out of it you can make a delicious tasty fillings for pancakes, canneloni, quiches etc. I've participated in making this cheese and it was actually my first time to visit Corsica that was 2001 and people were so very hospitable to welcome me in their working place. It's was absolutely an unforgetable experience to witnessing how to make cheese or can I say once in a lifetime experience.
Sometime end of August and beginning of September it start to rain and I've never seen an enormous lightning and the blasting thunderstorm, you will be afraid and I was ! The village we are situated is 900 meters of altitude so can you imagine ! It could be dangerous so better be at home and not on top of the mountain so for hikers be very careful, one advice check the weather report before embarking.
Anyway, I have a lot of things to say about what Corsica is, experiences to share with, a day is not enough to articulate everything so I am inviting you to see with your own eyes, you will not be frustrated, it's worth seeing. Better be there in person you will enjoy it as much as I did.
By the way, one word of warning though, be careful in driving because Corsican people are imprudent, they're like the KING of the way, they don't respect any of the codes even the famous straight line meaning prohibited to cross the line. Apprarently, you know it by heart Francesca, "la ligne blanche".... See you soon in Corsica!
