1. To Socialize - Socalization is essential in molding one's personality. We wanted him to improve in terms of speaking. He started saying a few words at the age of two . We were a bit afraid of him being a late speaker. According to my husband cousin who is taking up Orthophonist ( speech therapist) at his age he needs to speak at least 50 words in accordance to the progression table of the child she has given us ! What do you think ?
2. For Exposure - Since he was breastfed until 13 months the only person he knows are his parents and the rest of the family! When he sees other people he tends to be distant. Whereas in school he will meet children of the same age to interact with. Learn to express himself in a peer group.
3. Development - to build up both his mental and physical capacities. Cognitive and non-cognitive adeptness could be developed and formed at an early age.
Astonished I was ! My son just turned 4 years old last January and he's now learning to know the time of the day! As the saying goes "do not judge the book by it's cover" but when I opened what is inside, well my judgement is confirmed !
The story says that "What time is it ?" A question which you often hear....Soon you will know how to answer alone! In this album, there are drawings accompanied by a clock, the actions illustrate which you make each day. You will thus learn how to recognize the position of the needles. An amusing way of knowing the hour ! Sept heures vingt (7:20 AM I slept well. I stretch myself and I wake up !) Sept heures et demie (7:30 AM I drink a bowl of milk and I eat slices of bread ).
This is the second page (the book has 11 pages back & forth) and it says what time is it in the afternoon and what he usually do ! I am confused because this one is very advance for a 4 year old kid. I want my child to take his time, to learn little by little! To enjoy being a young boy and explore things without being precipitant . School means learning and learning should be fun too ! Serious learning has not yet to come....later on he will !
What about your children what do they learn from kindergarten ? Should I be happy that my child is learning in a haste ? Do you agree with me on this point ?

naku haze, tingin ko magiging makulit na bata tong bébé ko na to hehe.
However, I think ur son's school is expecting too much from the kids. at that age dapat nag eenjoy pa ung mga bata pumasok sa school.. kmbaga work and play.. if the kids feels pressured or prang nahi2rapan na, ang tendency they will lose interest to go to school diba. but then who am i to say, i dont have a kid of my own yet.
Makis : I have vague memories too Makis! Anyway, we are starting to explain him things in a subtle way, we don't want him to be confused at least he knows how to tell the numbers ;) ! AT his age he needs to find that learning is fun too !
Apol : Apol I don't understand why the school system is becoming exigent nowadays?! I know some people who are scholars and have graduated with honors but they ended up with no job! Some has no degrees but because of perseverance and hardwork they have more success in life! That's why I want my kids to take their time because forcing them will only lead to have a stressful adolescence! At his age he needs to learn & accompanied by enjoyment!
Analyse : That's good at least Louna will be bilingual :)! I am introducing Tagalog with my kids too, it's more of hubby's preference ;)! Pero medyo nakakaintindi na sila ng ibang words in English, kids are like sponge and they could easily learn until the age of 7 !
Yen : I am sorry for your friend ! While surfing I discovered this site http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/autism3.htm ! I hope this could give hope to your friend !
I agree with you when kids go to school at an early age when they grow up they get lazy ...nasasawa na kasi, kaya dapat sa ganitong age nila mag work and play nga muna !
Si maman , mag eecole na rin nyan, kasi assignments n basti si mama tutulong, lol
anyway, korek ka dyan, buti yan marami na siyang mameet na friends.
WIDEN OUT baga.
Siya, next blogs nyan eh about basti in s chool na.
Sana wala baho kilikiling bata kina basti's room, di gaya nina margie and anjo! hihihi!
My kids started learning to tell time in grade 2. Mukhang advanced nga diyan.
My oldest son was a late talker too. Confused kasi ako nuon whether to talk to him in tagalog or english. But when he started nursery at age 4 1/2, naka-adapt naman agad siya.
Wow, that is really great that he knows how to read time at that age. My daughter only knows how to read the digital clock. And she's almost 6. She's learning how to read and spell in Senior Kindergarten. They teach her about water, the holidays, the stars and many many more.
And ofcourse she learns a lot by watching TV and observing others. I also read a lot to her.
Niceheart: Yes he is in nursery :)! They do play, eat, & sleep but when they work into something they are very advanced! (coloring, designing, memorizing & songs, alphabets & numbers etc). In fact, we have already received his grades last year and they are graded by :
A - very good
B - good
C - fair
D - poor
We are happy that he has an A, B & C :)! I know he will learn a lot but I also want him to enjoy and to avoid stress at an early age! Oh that was our problem too, whether my husband talk to him in french and me in English or tagalog ????!!!! But the pediatrician advised us to talk in one language first then when he is fix and fluent then we can be able to introdce another language! Hubby prefers me to talk to them in Tagalog! They understand some words now :)! Anyway, children learn very fast! Now, no worries at all !
Next year nga Abby is going to be 4 years old so we are going to send her to JK. By Sept. pa naman eh! pero kahit yan I feel too early pa din. I guess I'm just being a Mom huh!
our kids are the source of our inspiration.. (pa kiss naman ako sa mga bebe dyan, sistah!)
Sexy Mom : You have said it all! I know that there are things to learn at a certain age and at a certain time! Every children should take their time! Thanks a lot for your words it made reassured that reading time at the age of 4 is really too early !
Agring : We put him at school only for the aforementioned reasons! Actually, it's like a day care centre too but we put our son in a private school that accepts children from 2 1/2 yrs old to learn how to socialize, coloring, singing, dancing, playing etc! Oh they even do siesta in the afternoon! But I don't know why they are giving the children this sorts of book ?!!
Lucille : Yes he is in the process as I've said to Leah but the school gives them this book to learn at home! Don't you find it too early for a 4 year old ?
Hope you are OK !
I am happy for your nephew, you will see he will develop a lot of things because interaction and seeing other children is very important in child's development :) ! Bonne chance pour ton neveu !
Di kaya maaga pa silang mag schooling?
I bought a lot of reading/educational materials for my daughter. I read 1 story a day, 3 minutes lang para di sya ma bored. Yes, you are right, thanks with your ideas of 1, 2 and 3. I will share all about these with hubby.
Naglalaro naman sila sa school, drawings, coloring as I've said kaya nga nagtaka ako dito sa book na binigay ng teacher! Kasi every Monday meron silang book na dinadala at home to read and learn. They will return it the next monday tapos papalitan na naman! Ganon ang rythm!
Good thing you bought books for Maria, it helps! My opinion, it is also nice if she sees other children too of her age aside children of your friends! Kasi doon sa school everyday, they will have activity group, they can interact with each other and I think it contibutes a lot while growing up. They will develop self-esteem, so goodluck to you Raquel, all my support !
I speak (ONLY) Dutch to my kid, my parents and grandparents spoke French with him, my in-laws where speaking Bikol with him when he went on vacation with his mother (every year during two months) in the Philippines. He is now in an International School in Manila where he studies in English.
The result? At age 13 he is fluent in four languages.
Don't wait with languages but be consequent. Don't start mixing languages. If you choose Tagalog ALWAYS speak Tagalog and don't mix it with another language. If you speak English don't mix your English with French and Tagalog.
It is not easy but well worth the effort.
